Mastermind Phone SHAKEN/STIR & CNAM

SHAKEN/STIR refers to a system in the United States that allows businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. This will help prevent the calls from showing up as SPAM or getting filtered.

NOTE: If you register for A2P to send SMS, all your phone numbers are automatically registered for SHAKEN/STIR so that your calls are more likely to get answered.

What is Shaken/STIR? It is a set of protocols designed to verify caller ID information and ensure that it comes from a genuine source. This system uses digital certificates to authenticate the caller’s identity. When a call is made, the caller’s credentials are confirmed through these certificates, which are then recorded in an online database. This process helps recipients trust that the call is indeed from the expected source.

CNAM registration helps improve your calling metrics by displaying your business name to contacts when you call them.

It’s important to note that while SHAKEN/STIR won't eliminate spam or nuisance calls, SHAKEN/STIR registration improves call completion and answer rates by confirming your ownership of the phone number.

After submitting their Business Profile, account admins will be able to register for SHAKEN/STIR.

This is a free-of-cost service.

How to Register for CNAM (For the United States Only)

CNAM is a feature in the United States public telephone network that identifies an incoming caller by a personal or business name associated with the calling party.

Note that CNAM registration does not guarantee that your business name will show up on your contact's phone—this depends on whether their carrier plan supports CNAM.

  • Navigate to Settings > Phone Numbers > Trust Center > CNAM (Voice).
  • Input the information to reflect accurate business details.

Note: If you have registered for A2P, your phone numbers will automatically be registered for SHAKEN/STIR, making CNAM registration a simple 3-step process. Here’s what this will look like:

FAQ

1. How will the numbers be linked to the SHAKEN/STIR Profile?

All numbers will be Linked Automatically. All currently available numbers and future bought numbers will automatically be linked with the registered SHAKEN/STIR.

2. Why does the business name not display when making calls, even though the client is A2P and SHAKEN/STIR approved with a verified caller ID setup?

The business name does not display when making calls because the verified caller ID feature only changes the number to display as the actual business number or the client's cell phone. To display the business name, the CNAM Registration feature will be required.

3. How can I prevent future mislabeling of my calls?

  • Register all new numbers immediately.
  • Monitor call patterns for irregularities.
  • Follow industry best practices for call frequency and messaging content.

4. What should I do if my international calls are marked as spam?

If your international calls are flagged as spam, contact the terminating carrier directly to address the issue, as there is no centralized system for international spam label removal.
